Most menopause books focus on either personal experience, medical treatment, or isolated lifestyle tips

I focus on:

  • a revolutionary reframing of menopause
  • a challenge to the medical status quo
  • a new model of menopause based on science, evolution and lived experience
  • explains symptoms at their root
  • explains why we don’t need HRT
  • antegrates science, culture, and empowerment
  • a complete, actionable plan

MenoMorphosis

A New Story for Menopause

Deficit Model vs Adaptive Model of Menopause

Everyday women are playing a new game called am I dying or is this menopause. It’s so much fun.

Here’s another game – how sleep-deprived, exhausted and brain dead can I be at work before they fire me.

No one has the answers and no one seems to care. Many doctors, the media, influencers and even some natural health practitioners are pushing hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Supplement companies are pushing a vast array of supplements, now called menowashing. Women are left high and dry – or rather low and sweaty.

How can we make sense of what is going on? How can we navigate through this maze to decide what is right for us and our health.

As I zoom out to see the big picture, 2 stories emerge. On the one hand the medical system has an oestrogen Deficiency Story. On the other the hand there is a new story for menopause – the Adaptation Story – which challenges the patriarchal oestrogen deficiency myth with science that reveals menopause is an extraordinary evolutionary adaptation designed to extend our lifespan and health span beyond our fertile years.

The Deficiency Story

For decades, the dominant medical narrative has treated menopause as an oestrogen deficiency disease — a malfunction to be corrected, a problem to be fixed. This Deficit Model rests on a simple assumption: women’s bodies are designed to run on high levels of oestrogen, and when that level drops, everything begins to break down.

The logic seems persuasive: restore the missing hormone and you restore the woman. In practice, this means hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the default answer — sometimes offered enthusiastically, sometimes reluctantly, but always as a “solution” to a “problem.”

But here’s the catch: if the Deficiency Story were true, every woman on HRT would feel fantastic. And they don’t. Many still struggle. Others feel trapped — as if their only options are to stay medicated or keep suffering.

And the message seeps in: something has broken. It makes you second-guess your body. You start to wonder if this is the beginning of the end — of your energy, your confidence, your sharpness. It shrinks you.

The trouble is, this model is incomplete. It sees menopause as the sudden collapse of a hormonal system, rather than the handover to a new one. It frames symptoms as errors caused by oestrogen loss, rather than as signals that your body is struggling to survive in your current lifestyle conditions. It ignores an over 10,000-year-old design in which women thrive post-fertility — physically strong, mentally sharp, and socially essential.

The Adaptation Story

There is another story, that makes a lot more sense. It starts by understanding that we have the capacity to run 3 hormonal codes – the Fertility Code, the Pregnancy Code and finally the Menopause Code. Each hormonal code is set up for a specific purpose and each requires a specific set of conditions to work at it’s best. The Fertility Code runs our menstrual cycles, the Pregnancy Code is designed to maintain pregnancy and birth a baby, and the Menopause Code is designed to allow us to finally live free of oestrogen, keep us sharp, strong, and vital for decades beyond our fertility.

The Adaptive Model begins with a different premise: menopause is not a failure, but a recalibration. It is the third biological program — the Menopause Code — designed to run without the high reproductive levels of oestrogen.

This program contains its own instructions for stability and vitality — metabolic adjustments, immune shifts, brain rewiring — that, when supported, allow a woman to live decades in good health after her reproductive years. The Adaptive Model asks not “How can we replace what’s gone?” but “How can we create the right environment for this code to run as designed?”

It recognises that symptoms are not random. They are the result of environmental mismatch: modern life’s chronic stress, nutrient depletion, sleep disruption, and metabolic strain interfering with the body’s built-in adaptation systems.

Now we can understand that menopause is not designed to be a collapse – but it can be if you’re not running the Menopause Code in the right conditions.

The food you eat, the exercise you do, the coping strategies you’ve always relied on, even the way you’ve been sleeping — they carried you through your twenties and thirties, but they don’t serve you anymore. They were right for your fertile years, but they aren’t right for this next phase. So your body does what we all say when life isn’t working: “I can’t work in these conditions!”.

And that’s exactly what symptoms are.

Hot flushes: “Turn down the heat, I can’t regulate like this.”
Brain fog: “Slow down, I can’t think in this setup.”
Weight gain: “I can’t burn fuel on this plan.”
Night sweats: “I can’t restore myself like this.”

Suddenly, the chaos makes sense. These aren’t signs of decline. They’re signals. Not proof you’re broken — proof your body is not able to function in your current conditions.

You need to adapt to the emergence of your biological Menopause Code that was initiated in perimenopause. When you change the environment — the food, the movement, the rest, the rhythm of your days — your body recalibrates. The fog clears. The flushes fade. Your energy steadies. Your weight regulates. You don’t go back to your old self — you step into your next self.

The Deficiency Story keeps you stuck. The new story for menopause – the Adaptation Story, sets you free. It’s prison vs liberation

Just as we were hormonally driven, we are now non-hormonally driven. This is not a deficit, it’s a biological design that kicked in as the production of oestrogen started waning And because of this design, your lifestyle has to change for this new reality. That’s just logic.

In the end, the Deficit Model only provides a holding pattern – and possibly severe consequences for your health.

HRT may offer symptom relief but keeps you in a kind of limbo, a prison for the mind and body. You are no longer fertile, yet you cannot progress to the final stage your biology is coded for. It is suspended animation — the appearance of stability, but without the deep rewiring your body and mind are ready for.

The Adaptive Model, by contrast, opens the door to the full transition. It works with the Menopause Code rather than suppressing it, allowing the profound recalibrations — biological, physical, emotional, and spiritual — that menomorphosis was always meant to bring. Menopause is only a decline if you don’t follow your evolutionary biological design..
